Leaders know that examining skills are critically important for success – in any sense. They work hard to develop their own skills and know their abilities in people.
Leaders very much inspire others to test their own inspiration and add their knowledge of what matters on the table. Checking is a fly-it's not something you put down to do. And every experience adds to your knowledge, so you get the best asset for your business, industry, family and yourself.
At the same time, it is such a valuable ability, it is unbelievable, how little value is attached to it by many, many executives. Again and again you will see that people leave a meeting with a statement that it was a waste of their time. As they press, they will say that they did not learn anything, or the meeting was insufficient or that they were not right to be there, or they thought they were muzzled.
Proposal: The next time you find yourself in a meeting where you consider it a waste of your time, you expect from this meeting to take at least 3 items of information – perception, beliefs, facts, prominent behavior , which can be helpful in your work. Then use those elements for your relationships. It works – most people do not. Most do not become active leaders. In terms of most people, they do not even know that the observation is highly rewarded capability.
If you want to be in top ten percent of whatever you do, work consciously and hard to develop your observation skills. It will pay – I guarantee it. If you want to be world class in anything, you need to develop the ability of the examination – see the world around you and see it every day, in all respects, and follow your thinking. Success rates go out – to monitor the world in all its diversity, learn from it, and take up the accumulation of intake and put them into use in decision making – to improve insight – to build relationships.
Ten behaviors and concepts of thought that are important to developing precise learning skills:
People's Growth – People Watching
Clarity – See The World As It Is
Curiosity – Ask Why
Listening Abilities ]
Looking for New Experiences and Possibilities
Knowledge of People's Behavior and Attitudes
Self-knowledge – Knowing Your Own Behavior, Attitudes, and Personal Skills, and How They Have influence on others.
It's easy to be so focused on your own work that we do not see the forest in the trees, even if we & # 39; are invited to the highest ranger station in a particular forest.
I was hiking in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve and descended into a steep, cliff, narrow path. Approaching me from below was a young woman, the fall fell over her eyes, dark shades, a hydraulic bag and a headphone. I set aside to let her pass – hikers rebellion is right – I said "Hello" and she passed me – without touching me – without acknowledging me! Wow – two men, close enough to touch, nobody else around, and not as much as a knot.
What does this have to do with observation skills? Lots. This caravan was so in its own area that nothing around her could come into her consciousness. The birds sing, the green spring, the warning that rattle the rattlesnake, the marrin of boots that cover her, beautiful blue sky – none of it could get into her "area." I see it a lot. Mountain bikers, hikers, runners – all of their trip – surprising about their environment except for what's right in front of them – and at risk of losing all sorts of messages. Examination? Other than their heart rate, covered in miles, burned calories, boundaries met, time passed, mountains climbed, gatorade consumed, how they felt – they could be in a dark tunnel. Too bad for them – they miss all kinds of critical entries that could help them grow and develop and enjoy gaining physical fitness.
To the extent that we close us from strangers; from things that would challenge us; of things that make it possible for us to think; from things that disagree with our beliefs; From things that can stimulate our senses, we have our own little coconut – this safe place where we can remain unchanged from all that is about us. Some call it focused – I do not think so.
A. We all need to gain or regain our sense of wonder about new things. Take another way to work, buy another newspaper, listen to a different press release, run across unknown territory, walk in the woods or mountains – without your iPod, try another routine in the gym, eat a meal you've never before. And keep track of all your senses. Achieving the ability to study is an active, exciting process. It is best achieved by perceiving – like the first time – the world around you, and then seeing more than you saw last time.
Try it – today. Be active observer of life – and gain more success – in what way you define success.
