Summits – Building a successful summit

Managing Director is just as effective as the leadership element he or she puts into place. Whether you're building a team from a cleaner start or working with one you've inherited, your job is to evaluate that team and make sure they can work with you and perform a program.

This article provides invaluable guidance on the most important role of management. Use it for your benefit!

Do not Make the Biggest Mistake
When you put together your leadership group or evaluate the one you've inherited, look. Most of us have blind spots. We really like it when we find leaders like ourselves. We know we will follow them. We know that they will probably accept many of our ideas.

After all, the only reason I need leadership team is that there are too many and too many tasks for me to cross it all by myself. If I could clone me that would be perfect, right? Well, it would be best to find people like myself to fill out the leadership team.


First of all, you do not have all the answers. Do not believe it? You need to take a self-examination. And if your leadership team consists of clover (or worse, sycophants), they have the same goals in common, as you do.

Secondly, there is a role to play in any leadership. It is possible and desirable that one person fulfills more than one role. It is also desirable to have the same role as strength for more than one person. For example, it's great if there are two or three people in a group that are all strong in business management.

But if you steer the leadership team with people like yourself, your team will be strong in your strength, but expanded in your weaknesses. (You have weakness, are not you?)

The 5 C
Let's explore the role of leadership group. I call them 5 C & # 39; s. I mentioned the first one above:

Client Manager – If you are a leading support department, this will not be a problem. But if you run a computer company, as I have, this could be your biggest challenge! I have introduced CIO with no customer skills. They upload their "leadership team" with technology companies whose customer skills are worse than their own. The task of CEO and COO is to guard against giving this event.

Broker – It's a cliché, but that does not mean it's not true. If you want to keep people on track, you need to stay in touch with them. Leaders who know how to speak and write effectively are important to your success. Enough said.

Challenger – Managers who set the leadership team with their own cloak show the importance of Challenger. Whether you set up a strategic plan or discuss daily daytime, there are decisions that the leadership team needs to do. If they were simple decisions, someone else would have done it. Thus, responsibility can not be made. The decision should include discussion and challenge. You want the time tied to the discussion so that you are not in parallel with debt. It's your job. But if members of the leadership are not challenged differently, decision making is less effective.

Commando – You need leaders or two whose greatest strength is to get it done. I was in a lead group where this role was called 800 pound gorilla. We did it when we were in trouble or thought we were having trouble. The guy we trust in this role did not care if someone liked him (though he was a very good boy). He cut through you, you know what and got people fired and focused. Big projects do not always work well, and interruptions can really bring you down. The command gets you back on track.

Celebrator – I had a boss who called this person as deputy prime minister. He or she may not have the same scope as others in the leadership group, but this person constantly keeps an eye on the employees. The celebrator is not just about parties and recognition. In this role you want someone who rely on people, who can tell you when you're wearing people or losing your support. This is someone who can remind you and your leadership group, who Susie describes the pat on the back or the production team, whose concerns are ignoring. This person helps you listen to your business.
